WE FIND AND FUND SOLUTIONS TO TURN THE TIDE ON THE CLIMATE CRISIS

On September 12, Project Zero announced The Coral Collective, the world’s largest global conservation collective helping to save coral reefs from extinction. Led by Project Zero, The Coral Collective aims to support the work of the G20’s Coral Research and Development Accelerator Platform (CORDAP), the Global Fund for Coral Reefs (GFCR), and the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI).

At the present, the alarming calls from marine scientists often remain in the echo-chambers of the biodiversity world. And although the loss of coral reefs would potentially be the first functional climate extinction in our lifetime, action to save coral reefs is still treated as a niche issue. The Coral Collective’s mission is to break through the echo chambers, accelerate awareness, and motivate global public and private action for coral reefs that aligns with scientifically determined targets that will help to save this Earth-first ecosystem.

RESTORE THE OCEAN, SAVE THE PLANET

As the climate crisis makes headlines across the planet, awareness has grown for the urgency to remedy the situation.

Project Zero works to protect and restore the ocean to turn the tide on the climate crisis. We raise awareness and funds through high profile events that are amplified by our partners, ambassadors and supporters in order to secure a global network of ocean sanctuaries, blue carbon and coral reef ecosystems to get the ocean, our biggest ally in the fight against the climate crisis, back in shape.

It's time to get the world on its feet and create the groundswell we need to restore our planet to health.

A global network of sanctuaries

Project Zero has set out to secure a global network of ocean sanctuaries to provide resilience to the devastating effects of the climate crisis. Stretching from Antarctica to the Bering Strait, and mapped out by the world's leading marine scientists, this global network of projects will be able to restore our ocean’s health, and set us on a sustainable path.

Like national parks in the water, each ocean sanctuary is a place where no one can drill, mine, fish or pollute to allow the ocean regain its power to mitigate the effects of climate change. In an explosion of biodiversity, fishes and invertebrates in ocean sanctuaries reproduce and grow to full size; this biodiversity is critical to the carbon cycle. Fish and their larvae immigrate to other areas of the ocean, securing a global food source that over a billion people rely on daily.

Each ocean sanctuary is a pearl in the global strand, each with its own unique characteristics, management plan and team on the ground; each requires many of the same processes and funding as their land-based counterparts.

Project Zero is committed to turning the tide on the climate crisis, and work across the majority of SDG goals including Life Under Water, Climate Action and Ending Poverty in All its Forms. As part of the SME Climate Hub, we have pledged to halve our carbon footprint and proud to a part of the UN Race to Zero.
